Epilepsy Awareness and Rescue Medication

This is a half day (4 hour) course for healthcare workers who support service users with epilepsy. Providing the knowledge and understanding of what it is like to live with epilepsy as well as the administration of the emergency medication Buccal Midazolam.

This course covers:

- Understand what epilepsy is and its prevalence in the UK
- Know the causes and symptoms of epilepsy and how it is diagnosed
- Know what a seizure is and the main types of seizures
- Understand how epilepsy is treated including seizure first aid
- Have an awareness of common epilepsy drugs and their side effects
- Understand the importance of keeping people with epilepsy safe
- Understand what Buccal Midazolam is
- Understand why Buccal Midazolam is given and when
- Be able to describe how to administer Buccal Midazolam
- Be able to demonstrate how to administer Buccal Midazolam


Key information
- A maximum of 12 participants can be accommodated on this course.
- Each learner will be provided with a workbook which they will complete throughout the course. This can be taken away with them at the end of the course and used as a revision tool.
- A range of assessment methods are used; this may include some practical activities and questioning (open and multiple-choice).
- Successful participation of the course and assessment will result in certification. 

Course duration:
Half-day - 4 hours

Course cost: £50 per person, payment due at time of booking.
