Paediatric First Aid

This course is 2 days long (14 hours) and the purpose of this training course is to ensure those who work with and care for babies and children are qualified in delivering first aid. This is particularly important within childcare and educational settings or for clubs and groups whom support children. This course meets the requirements for Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS).

This course covers:

- Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Being able to assess an emergency situation safely 
- Being able to provide first aid for an infant/child who are unresponsive
- Using an AED on a child
- Being able to provide first aid for an infant/child who are choking
- Being able to provide first aid to an infant/child with external bleeding
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child who is suffering from shock
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child with bites, stings and minor injuries
- Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies
- Being able to administer first aid to an infant/child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Being able to provide first aid to an infant/child with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
- Knowing how to provide first aid to an infant/child who has sustained an electric shock
- Knowing how to administer first aid to an infant/child with burns or scalds
- Knowing how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
- Being able to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis


Key information
- A maximum of 12 participants can be accommodated on the course to ensure quality of teaching.
- Each participant will be required to complete a health declaration form due to the practical elements of the course.
- Each learner will receive a workbook which they will complete throughout the duration of the course.
- Each person will need to complete a theory assessment and practical assessments to pass the course.
- Successful participation of the full 2 days and all the assessments will result in certification which is valid for 3 years.

Course duration: 
2 days (14 hours) each day is inclusive of two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break (please note lunch is not provided).
